NIE and Residencia applications
NIE: If you are buying a property in Spain, sooner or later you are going to need to apply for an NIE number, which is a number that is given to you as a means of identifying you. This will be necessary for many things such as buying a car, video rentals, generally paying for bills, although passport numbers are also accepted-t , but not always. The only way to be absolutely sure that you won't ever be turned down because you don't have the right documentation is by acquiring an NIE number. The best way for that is to go to Alicante with your Eurocosta representative and come back a few hours later with your new NIE numbers. End of story.
Anyone who tells you that it can be done through a police station is misguided, it used to be possible but the rules have changed.
RESIDENCIA: If you want or need to change your official country of residence, then you will have to apply for residencia status which takes about 6 months, does not require you to own a property in Spain, and implies that you live in Spain more than 187 days a year. You will no longer pay your taxes in the UK or Ireland or in any other country. All your income will be declared in Spain.
Eurocosta can arrange and process your Residencia application for you so as to ensure it is received in the shortest possible amount of time.
